Investigation on Diet Management Status in Discharged Patients with Diabetes Mellitus

Methods A to tal of 120 discharg ed pat ient s w it h diabet es m ellit us w er e invest ig at ed on manag e m ent of calorie cont ent , diet ary pat t ern and diet ar y behavior in 3 days af ter discharge. Results Of t he 80 valid questionnaires, t he to tal daily calo rie w as pro per in 18 cases ( 22. 5% ) , insuff icient in 32 cases ( 40 0% ) and ex cessive in 30 cases ( 37. 5% ) . Daily calor ie intake w as positively relat ed t o age, lengt h of di ag no sis, and calories of bedtim e snack. T he daily calorie m anagement of t he ov erw eight w as w orse t han those w it h no rmal w eight and obese ( P < 0. 05) . T he pr opo rtio ns o f car bohy drat e, f at and pro tein o f t ot al calories w er e ( 47. 0 !9. 0) % , ( 35. 3 ! 5) % , and ( 17. 6 ! 4) % respect ively. T he proport ion o f car bo hy 8. 3. drat e w ere relat ed to t he f requency of eat ing out. Proport ion of fat w as posit ively r elat ed t o t he daily oil in t ake, and neg at ively related t o t he daily int ake of v eg et able. Conclusion T he pro blems associated w it h in suf f icient or excessiv e int ake of diet ary t ot al calorie w ere det ect ed in the discharg ed pat ient s w it h diabet es mellit us, such as unbalanced proport ion o f car bohy drat e, fat and pro tein. T he diet ary management w as pref erable fo r t he f at people but poor f or those overw eight.
